Stephen Tompkinson, known for his role in ‘DCI Banks’, is currently on trial for inflicting grievous bodily harm on Karl Poole in May 2021. The court heard that Tompkinson hit Mr. Poole, causing him to fall to the ground and fracture his skull, resulting in traumatic brain injuries. The actor denies the charges, and his defense suggested that Mr. Poole may have exaggerated the incident.
According to prosecutor Michael Brunch, Tompkinson phoned the police at 5:30 am to report two drunk men outside his home, from whom he took a bottle of Jagermeister and wanted them to leave. Mr. Poole and his friend were passing by, and Tompkinson slapped Mr. Poole with his right hand before punching him with his left fist, causing him to fall unconscious. Tompkinson claimed self-defense, but the prosecution argued that his story was a weak attempt to deflect blame for his aggressive actions.
